Sketchbook Shenanigans

Darkwing Duck #8 is in the bag and it's time to move on to greener pastures.... Like Darkwing Duck #9. But in the 5 minutes I have between issues, I thought I'd share a few pages out of my sketchbook.

Now if you've paid attention to this blog at all you know I hate keeping sketchbooks. I can fill up a book with great stuff and do one lousy drawing at the end and the whole book is ruined for me. But lately with my work on DW I've actually found it pretty useful to keep all my sketches for the series all in one place.

I'm not really a Marvel guy but I remember reading The Defenders as a kid. I just thought the idea of a team of non-team players was kind of cool.

I really hope if we get to shoehorn Glomgold into DW he's the Afrikaner version. That just seems more evil.

Clayduck. Just in case there's a Batman/DW crossover

Or Manroot, in case you know fear.

Epic Mickey get me thinking of the possibilities....

Not to forget my Muppet roots...

...or my Ninja Turtle roots. My first job out of college was doing merchandising art for the turtles. Of course that was the FIRST time they were popular (God, I'm old)

Always gotta throw in a little Star Wars Love. By the way, when did Jabba go from 3 fingers in ROTJ to 4 fingers in everything else?

Of course a little cheesecake for desert.

  2. I love looking at other people's work, and it's a real treat to see your DW sketches! I love that you can capture so many different styles in your work, too. <3

  3. I love the "Epic Mickey" one... just because it's so downright classic. :) Thanks for sharing, James!

  4. I was wondering if James responds back to the comments on his blog or do we have to catch him in person at a Comic-Con? Just wondering because on my blog I respond asap or at least once a week.

  5. I hope Boom Studios can create sketchbooks for their artists. These are all fun pieces that should be collected into volumes.

  6. Sketchbooks would be nice. I will have a selection of sketches in the back of the trades and possibly my own sketchbook available for SDCC and online this year.
